IINA is the modern video player for macOS.

A great player, and very competitive with VLC, but I haven't discovered a way to synchronize, play and scrub through two videos at the same time using a single set of controls, (a feature i wish I had for the purposes of editing subtitles in video projects). I'd happily drop a few dollars for the feature if the developers could figure out how to accomplish this,

IINA is getting closer to fully replace VLC! Only big issue I've found: It simply doesn't see embedded subtitles in TV streams or .ts recordings. A little difference in how the playlists work, too: I'm used to have my list in a separate window in VLC, which is not possible here. I haven't tested every other feature yet, but it's great to see IINA improving.

VLC started giving me issues so I tried a few others. IINA is the best. It opens everything and just works. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 STARS!

I wonder who is the shmuck that gives irrelevant thumbs down to most of the comments here. (I'll probably get one, I bet... :-D) IINA has become my favourite player, it covers most of my needs. Nevertheless, I regret the complexity of video filters settings (like cropping or sharpening, etc.) that you have to create — compared to VLC, where you can try them in real time. Anyway, it's getting better and better and has become one of the best players, even compared with payware.
